2022

Cleaning house is the norm on New Year’s eve and today the whole family joined in the kids doing upstairs while Mommy cleared away the Christmas decorations and bottomed the living room and kitchen. I joined in later when we double teamed the kitchen and made it New Year ready. I had spent a couple of hours in my shed but lacked the mojo from yesterday so saw little point staying in there when I could be warm in the house.

A traditional Pick n mix tea was laid out on the kitchen table which we ate while watching the film Dumb and Dumber To which Reagan didn’t want to watch which left Lincoln Mommy and me to laugh hysterically at and also cringe at when a couple of scenes were definitely not appropriate for Lincoln’s eyes but a cushion over his face navigated himself through those bits lol

We also played Mommy’s favourite game Yahtzee which she trounced us at twice before the film became the main event. A good NYE so far and its still early yet…

Finally got to spend all day in me shed sorting it out and finishing off the ceiling, the roof now consists of the frame covered on top with 11mm OSB, roofing membrane and felt shingles. Between the framing is 50mm Celotex insolation and underneath is a moisture barrier and 9mm hardwood which is how I had planned it many months ago and is now completed.

After finishing it I had a good tidy up so I can see the wood for the trees and plan my next stage of this project. I would love it to be a window but the internal walls, external cladding, the guttering, electrics etc are all the jobs in line for 2023 and hopefully by this time next year it will all be done, well that’s the plan!

Went for a walk this morning with Billy to Norman’s Wood and back and this afternoon we went for a walk with Jamie’s friends from church and did the Middlewich Walk stopping for coffee at the Big Lock

Lincoln has decided he wants to grow his hair like a YouTuber he follows, it’s the first time he has shown interest in his individuality and wanting look different and it gave me a wierd feeling like he’s growing up and I don’t want him to because he’s just perfect as he is. Alas no matter what I think he will grow up and into a fine young man the same as Reagan is growing into a fine young woman we just have to keep guiding them both like we have upto now

We bought me mum a new LG TV because hers had the same fault as our Samsung TV had, I say we Karl Karen Helen Andy Jamie and me. We set it up for her on WiFi and added the main apps on it iPlayer ITVX etc and showed her around the remote and left her to it. I think she likes it I will give her a call tomorrow to make sure.

Our planned pre Christmas trip to see the Christmas Light trail was rescheduled for tonight and it was pissing down but we prepared for it with coats and umbrellas and off we set.

It just was not as “special” for a few reasons not least the weather but also being after Christmas was not as exciting as it is when the night signifies the beginning of our Christmas celebrations and for some inexplicable reason the trail was anticlockwise which just didn’t work for me?

There were some great exhibits the lasers were great and the singing tree was amazing and I would love to go again next year but this year lacked the wow factor for me

Knocked the cobwebs off with a walk up to Norman’s Wood this morning which was a really great way to get the blood flowing after eating a lot yesterday and in preparation for much the same at mums later

After missing out last year due to a COVID outbreak at our house it was great to be all together again, especially when Auntie Karen was there too which made today even better!

Auntie Helen and Andy had to leave early evening to go see Andys sister but we talked and ate ate and talked all day until around 9pm it was time to go see how the Billster was doing.

It’s always been a similar traditional day at 14 Cledford Crescent since I was born, a big turkey dinner followed by Christmas pudding and brandy sauce, then get all that washed up before starting to get tea ready which is a cold meat salad followed by mums trifle (the crowning glory) everyone loves that trifle!

After taking Billy for a walk we were not long out of bed so an episode of I Should Have Died and sleep. A great day from start to finish

Sat waiting for the Broncos Christmas Day game again the LA Rams to start at 9:30pm after a lovely day at home which for Reagan and Lincoln  was all about the presents for Mommy it was about making everything just right for everyone else and for me amongst many things having my Mum over for the day.

Reagan was blessed with lots of things for her favourite hobby horse riding like new boots gloves and a grooming kit but her favourite gift was her new smart watch although the curling tongue and girly stuff were a close second.

Lincoln had asked for an Xbox Elite 2 controller and that won the best gift competition but honourable mentions should go to Mario Odyssey (which he played all day) Star Wars lego and Funco Pops, too.

They both got Jamas, books and gift cards but all those are slow burners which will give the biggest joy after today but they were smiling all day which was all Mommy and me wanted out of today for it to be a success.

Mommy got her traditional pan which she will enjoy every single day and received it without being ungrateful like last year…. an honorable mention should go to the Remarkable 2 tablet Santa brought for her which she also seems to like too?

I got a table saw!

The first Kings speech was an event at 3pm as Charles III addressed the nation although Lincoln fell asleep during it but for the rest of us it was good to watch.

The King’s Speech

Mommy cooked a standing rib roast dinner with mash, roasties, carrots, sprouts pigs in blankets and gravy which in my opinion was her best Christmas dinner ever and she has cooked some great ones and followed that up with the BEST sticky toffee pudding covered in double cream I have ever tasted. 10 out of 10 dude next level cooking is as big a compliment as I can give the whole meal!

This afternoon was spent watching movies and baking, I watched It’s a wonderful life, before taking Billy and got back to watch The Grinch. It was a little later than usual when we got around to watch our traditional Snowman movies, the children are growing up and as much as we want them around us at Christmas we don’t nurture that throughout the year and they are used to being in their rooms with their friends.

Tonight was different I think because they felt a sense of duty to be with us because if they didn’t Christmas might not happen. The Santa prep was very matter of fact, a cup a coffee  and a mince pie was put on the table infront of the fire along with a carrot and they went to bed, no ceremony no imagination or magic “night”

This morning Church laid on a breakfast this morning and afterwards both the children sang Away in a Manger up on stage followed by Jamie’s solo singing Mary Don’t You Know all three made me so proud and warranted the applause from everyone in the room.

We went to visit my Dad afterwards and dropped off a card and a couple of gifts for him and Liz but although they were really pleased to see us all they had other plans so it was a short stay as they wanted to go to the Chippy before it shut(?) so we left.

I have never been the driving force behind anything Christmas but I have always put 100% effort into the kids Christmas even if it’s been Mommy leading the way, but to see them slowly growing out of it all is going to be so disappointing…we love being their Santa. Now if they’ll just go to sleep before midnight we can go to bed too

I hope one day, like I did, they realise how much love parents pour into making Christmas special for their children.

[edit] Jamie just fell down the stairs, from top to bottom, luckily she travelled said distance on her ass which cushioned the fall so to speak! She’s lay on the couch at the moment rubbing it (ooo I say!) and also finding other impact area of significance around her body. Hopefully the aches and pains won’t hamper her tomorrow when the adrenaline wears off?

We slept in a bit and it rained so the plan to get to the shops early was scuppered because Mommy wanted to wake up without an alarm so that was never going to be before 8 let alone 7 as planned. The plan to do the Middlewich Walk was still on until she looked out of the window firstly of the bedroom, then the kitchen window, followed by the car windscreen, but it wasn’t until she looked out through Morrisons window, after completing the final Christmas shop which was not too stressful but the queues at the tills were around the shop and it was while we stood there that the constant rain became too much.

Apart from a couple of bottles of wine as presents for Karl and Andy and some Christmas nibbles (don’t ask) we’re done…ready with a day to spare! The calendars came today so we can perhaps go see Grandad tomorrow after church and give him his.

I managed to go and see Keith and Lena as I normally do every year they both looked really well and it was good to catch up with them. I feel so bad that I have not been to Vons grave yet and even worse I could not find a wreath I wish I’d bought one when they were everywhere I will have another look tomorrow but will go to the cemetery anyway!
